Computational Biology and Single Cell Approaches to Stem Cell Systems
Through the generous support of the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, we are pleased to announce a new collaborative research initiative in Computational Biology and Single Cell Approaches to Stem Cell Systems. The goal of funding is to seed new collaborative projects with the expectation that successful projects will be competitive for longer term external support. Proposals must include at least two faculty-level co-principal investigators (co-PIs). The proposed research should be distinguishable from currently funded research in the co-PI’s laboratories. Applications are encouraged across departments and schools at USC and CHLA, and may include faculty at the California Institute of Technology as co-PIs. Partnerships with and between junior faculty are strongly encouraged.
The successful teams will receive $200,000 of direct support for one year. We anticipate funding three projects/year. First year grantees may compete for a second year of funding along with new applicants. Funding may cover co-PI salaries (up to 10%), supplies and minor equipment (up to $5,000).
A brief letter of intent (LOI) to apply must be submitted by 5 p.m. PST on November 8, 2019. The LOI should include a one-page project summary emphasizing the significance of the research, outlining the approach, highlighting expected outcomes for the research, and a one-page combined biosketch of co-PIs highlighting each individual’s experience and synergism for their partnership.
Applicants solicited for a full proposal will be notified by November 15, 2019. Full proposals will be due by 5 p.m. PST on December 6, 2019. Instructions for full proposal submission will be provided shortly. Full proposals will be reviewed by an international group of arm’s-length researchers. Successful applicants will be notified in early 2020 with the expectation that funding commence by February 1, 2020.
